How Your Business Can Use the Help to Grow Scheme

Last year, Chancellor Rishi Sunak introduced the Help to Grow scheme, with the aim of

boosting productivity and success following on from the Coronavirus pandemic. The scheme

offers management and digital training tailored to maximise the potential of new

businesses.

The Government has a target of getting 30,000 businesses enrolled in the scheme in the space of three years. In this article, we will discuss what the scheme has to offer and how you can apply, as well as the benefits it could have.

What is Help to Grow Management?

Help to Grow Management is a 12-week programme aimed at business leaders who are

looking to develop their managerial and strategic skills.

The key aspects that the scheme can help businesses with include:

  • Building marketing strategies

  • Employee engagement

  • Improving financial strategies

  • Innovation

  • Adopting new technologies

  • Leadership skills

Businesses who participate in the scheme will be supported by a mentor and will receive 1-1

training from them. The course is delivered through a combination of virtual and face-to-

face tuition, and is taught by leading business schools across the country.

To have access to the programme, there is a cost of £750 for the participant, with the

remaining 90% being funded by the Government.

How Can I Apply, Am I Eligible?

You can apply via the Small Business Charter website, linked here -

https://smallbusinesscharter.org/help-to-grow-management/.

To take part in the programme, you must either be a key decision maker or a senior manager

in your business.

To be eligible, your business must:

  • Be based in the UK

  • Have between 5 and 249 employees

  • Have been operating for at least a year

Unfortunately, charities are not eligible for this scheme.

What Is Help To Grow Digital?

Help to Grow Digital offers discounts and support to help businesses make use of

technology and software. The scheme was launched in January this year and allows

businesses to get up to 50% off technology solutions that suit their business. This could save

each business up to £5000 on the cost of new software.

According to the Government, the discounted products will help businesses to:

  • Manage their finances digitally

  • Build customer relationships

  • Make the most of selling online

  • Increase sales

Examples of products you may be able to get a discount on include customer relationship

management software and accountancy software.

How Can I Apply And Am I Eligible?

To apply, your business must be a limited company, because your Companies House

number is needed for registration. You can register your interest on the Gov.uk website.

This scheme is open to businesses that have:

  • Been active and trading for at least a year

  • Between 5 and 249 employees

  • Been registered at Companies House or on the Financial Conduct Authority’sMutuals Register

  • Not previously purchased the discounted software

What Could This Scheme Do?

The Treasury is expecting that this scheme could add £100 billion to the UK economy.

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng is also extremely passionate about helping small

businesses to bounce back from the effects of the pandemic.

On a smaller scale, this scheme could help to maximise the potential of your small business

by teaching important skills and mentoring you. The digital side could also help the way your business functions.
